Ta da! We are going to turn our boxes into little flip books. Begin by cutting off the sides, bottom and top flaps from each box. You can cut blank paper to fit inside your crayon-box covers. Bind the pages between covers by punching holes and using metal rings. Provide color-word flash cards so students can write a different color word on each page.
I made up some cutie pages to give my students practice writing and reading the color words. If you are interested, I put them in my TPT store for a buck. Click here:
This package includes pages for the eight basic colors found in a box of eight crayons along with pink and white. The books look like this:
Here are examples of the pages:
What ideas do you have for reusing crayon boxes. I'd be tickled pink if you'd leave a comment!
I love these!! I teach fifth grade, so I don't need them for my kiddos, but I'm going to make a few sets for my son's teacher as a gift (he's in kindergarten). I just added it to my TPT wishlist, and will buy it in the next few days! I'm also thinking I might do something with this for my fifth graders with synonyms for colors...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea!
Oooh, yeah...I bet there is something there for fifth graders. Mayble similes? Poetry? "It was as red as a tomato left too long on the vine." "It was as black as the inside of a tent on a cloudy night." Or maybe feelings.."I feel black when I wake up in the middle of the night." There are great possibilities for some creative writing projects!!

ReplyDeletethis is SO cute! great idea! and great ideas from the others too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this fantastic idea. I have just retired from 35 years of teaching and wish that I had seen this before!! I always did the "At first it was a crayon box but now it is a..." art project where they used scrap coloured paper to make their crayon box (glued onto a larger sheet of paper) into something else. We read "It's Not a Box" first.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, JG :)
DeleteOh my goodness. This is brilliant! Doing this when I get home, and also making two for my friend's twins for their birthday party in two weeks!
